Proficiency in English

Candidates must submit proof of their knowledge of English, i.e., submit formal test evidence from one of the internationally recognized tests, to be received at CSUCA no later than 31 March 2010.

Score Requirements

The preferred international tests are TOEFL and IELTS, with the following minimum scores:

• Internet-based TOEFL: Minimum requirement a total score of 80 with no section below 18.
• IELTS: Minimum requirement an overall score of 6.0 with no section less than 5.5.

English-Language-Test Exemptions

Some candidates may be exempt from submitting formal test evidence:

• Candidates who have a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university where English is the only language of instruction.
• Candidates who have a Master's degree from a recognized university where English is the only language of instruction.
• Candidates who have 30 HE credits from a Nordic country and the language of instructions of the courses/programme/university is English.

Start Planning the English Test Now!

Candidates must start planning their English tests as soon as possible, if they don’t already have proof of their English skills or are exempted from a test.

Register early for the best chance of reserving a seat on the preferred date and location. Regular registration for TOEFL test closes seven days before the test day (not including the day of the test). The registration for IELTS closes about 6 weeks prior the test day.

Write the English test no later than in February to be able to provide a formal test evidence of English knowledge on 31 March 2010.

Results

Both tests provide the service of sending official score reports to selected institutes and agencies. Please fill in the registration form so that the result is sent to CSUCA. CSUCA is an approved recipient for TOEFL results and the results will be sent directly to CSUCA by using the code number: 4271. The alternative is to send the official score report by regular mail to CSUCA.

• The scores of a TOEFL Internet-based test are posted online and mailed approximately 15 business days after the test date. Allow 7–10 days for delivery in the U.S. and more time for other areas.
• The scores of a TOEFL paper-based test are sent approximately 5 weeks after the candidate has taken the test.
• The scores of IELTS test are available 13 days after taking the test.
